- Release of SPID certifications in Italy: a strong growing trend!

The positive trend continues for the issue of the SPID (Digital Public Identity System) certifications by the Identity Providers. This is good news and an excellent signal that something is moving in the digitization of our country.

Among other things, the SPID theme rose to the Italian financial and banking news in May because BNL (BNL clients and Hello Bank!) – in collaboration with Poste Italiane – obtained the certification of “Identity Provider” by AGID, and became the first bank to obtain this certification. A few days after the launch, the bank declared that there were already 1000 customers who had joined the initiative by acquiring a SPID account from the new provider.

How does the SPID (Digital Public Identity System) work?

With SPID, the citizen can simplify the way he communicates with the Public Administration today, and with other Services Providers tomorrow, through a super simplification of his/her access to the different platforms online, be them Region, State, Provinces, Taxes, Contributions, Income Taxes, Automobile Fees, etc.

One single User is created, requested to one of the so-called Identity Providers (see table), and this provides the applicant with a certification, with the User name and Password. This certification applies in all cases in which a user is accessing a Service Provider website that shows the blue button (below) with the indication “enter with SPID”. Always using the same user and password. And from any device, either PC, Tablet or Smartphone.

What are the main actors in the SPID system?

Identity Providers (June 2018): Aruba, Intesa (IBM Group), InfoCert, Namirial, Poste Italiane, Register.it, Sielte, TI Trust Technologies.

Service Providers (June 2018):
Along with the Identity Providers, the other key players in the SPID ecosystem are Service Providers, that is, public and private organizations that offer their online services to customers and citizens, accessible through their SPID credentials.

Areas of improvement – Solution proposed by OmnitechIT

There are areas within SPID where it can definitely do better. One of these is the dissemination among the Service Providers of safe and effective Enabling Software solutions that support the adoption of access with SPID to their online services.

Tra l’altro il tema SPID è recentemente salito agli onori della cronaca Finanziaria e Bancaria italiana nel mese di maggio perche’ BNL (clienti BNL e Hello Bank!) – in collaborazione con Poste Italiane – ha ottenuto la certificazione di “Identity Provider” da parte di AGID, ed è diventata la prima Banca ad ottenere questa certificazione. Pare che a pochi giorni dal lancio la banca abbia dichiarato che sono già 1000 i clienti che hanno aderito all’iniziativa acquisendo una Utenza SPID dal nuovo provider.

Come funziona SPID (Sistema Pubblico di Identità Digitale)

Con SPID, il cittadino può semplificare il proprio modo di comunicare con le Amministrazioni Pubbliche oggi, e con altri Services Provider domani, attraverso una super semplificazione del proprio accesso alle differenti piattaforme online, siano esse Regione, Stato, province, Tasse, Contributi, Dichiarazioni dei redditi, Tasse automobilistiche, etc.

Si crea una sola Utenza, la si richiede ad uno dei cosiddetti Identity Providers, il quale fornisce al richiedente una certificazione, con Utenza e Password. Questa certificazione vale in tutti i casi in cui un utente si trovi ad accedere ad un sito Web di un Service Provider che mostri il bottone blue (sotto) con indicazione “entra con SPID”. Sempre usando la stessa user e password. E da qualsiasi device, sia PC, Tablet o Smartphone.

Quali sono i principali attori del sistema SPID

Service Provider (giugno 2018):
Accanto agli Identity Providers gli altri attori fondamentali dell’ecosistema SPID sono i Service Providers, ovvero le organizzazioni pubbliche e private che espongono a clienti e ai cittadini i propri servizi online accessibili attraverso le proprie credenziali SPID.

Aree di miglioramento – Soluzione proposta da OmnitechIT

Ci sono sicuramente nell’ambito SPID aree in qui si può fare meglio.
